Programme Action forms the heart of Soroptimism.
Whilst the Programme Action Committee coordinates the programme of activities and service, all Club members have a commitment to contribute significantly to the service aspect of our Club. There are numerous ways, both as individuals and groups, to achieve our service aims.
The Programme Focus areas are as follows:
Currently, we actively support:
The President's charities for the year are Fairbridge Cymru and Cardiff Institute for the Blind.
The President's theme is 'Caring for the Environment' and the programme for the year will cover marine conservation, waste management, renewable energy and climate change.
We support five girls through their secondary education in the Cape Verde Islands and in addition, facilitate the support of a further seven girls. Read about this in our projects link. We run the 'tuck shop' at Ty Celyn Sunday Club for disabled children. We supply toiletry packs for Rhymney Valley Women's Aid. We provide Christmas Gifts for teenage girls and mothers in Barnardo's Marlborough Road Project. We have joined the Marine Conservation 'adopt a beach' scheme and are committed to cleaning the beach at Swanbridge at least twice a year.
We helped to found and fund a nursery in the poorer area of Mauritius. In 2005 we won a very special award for this project at our annual conference in Nottingham.
In addition we support other parts of SI and the organisations of which we are members – Wales South Region, SIGBI, UNA, UNIFEM, and Amnesty International.
See our diary of upcoming events for further information.
