St Fagans National History Museum is situated on the outskirts of Cardiff. It opened in 1948 and shows how the people of Wales lived, worked and spent their leisure time over the last five hundred years. During the succeeding years it has inspired generations of visitors with an appreciation of Welsh history and tradition. The Museum stands in the grounds of the magnificent St Fagans Castle, a late 16th century manor house generously donated to the people of Wales by the Earl of Plymouth.
A trip to St Fagan's in June found us taking a guided tour of the Rose and Italian gardens on a beautifaul summer's evening. In addition to hearing about the discovery of the Italian Garden and its restoration we were able to view the Soroptimist Rose, donated by the club some years previously.
We heard about the Bardou Job rose which had not grown in these gardens for more than 100 years but, having been rediscovered in the head warden's garden on Alcatraz, has been propagated successfully. This tour was followed by an excellent meal in the restaurant.
