Events – Red sacks collection

Sacks ready for collection

Members carried out a 'spring clean' of their cupboards during September and collected 28 bags of items no longer needed by them or their families. We cleared out our cupboards of unwanted clothes, books, CDs and household goods. The contents will be used for sale in Red Cross shops.

Good quality items are worth more money, but the British Red Cross sells damaged clothing for rag, so nothing was wasted. The only unacceptable items were children's shoes and electrical goods. Recycling in this way helps both the Red Cross and the environment. The money made through such collections can help to equip overseas hospitals with medical equipment ( two hospitals with 1000 sacks) and could put three Red Cross ambulances on the road in the UK for a year, providing vital backup to the emergency services (50,000 sacks). There are 388 such shops throughout the UK.
