Events – Fundraising in 2007
The President's charity this year has been the Princess Royal Trust for Carers (PRTC), which is in partnership with UKPAC. The PRTC is the largest provider of comprehensive carer support services in the UK. Through its network of Carers Centre, including the Cardiff Carers Centre, the interactive websites, Carers.org and YC Net. The Trust currently provides information advice and support services to 190,000 carers, including over 15,000 young carers.
The Trust also acts independently in the interests of carers through
- Research, development and consultation
- Influence of national regional and local policy
- Partnership with other national organisations
- Information through our interactive websites, providing advice and access to support groups.
Money was raised for the PRTC through:
- Ready Steady Flowers – a flower demonstration with a different.
- Musical Interlude for Carers – musical evening with a buffet Hosted by SI Cardiff and SI Bridgend and arranged by the Bridgend Carers Centre. Donations made to the Cardiff Carers Centre and the Bridgend Carers Centre which are supported by the PRTC
- Wine Tasting
Other organisations have been financially supported through fund raising
- Wine and Wisdom a quiz with a different – WELCARE
- Wassail evening – Air Ambulance Wales
- Gymanfa Ganu – led by the Ardwyn Singers Cardiff – Archbishop of Wales Children's fund and Dewi Sant restoration fund
- Smartie Tubes – collecting 20p pieces – School in a Box
- At Home – the Cape Verde Education Trust
- Wales South Region project Licking Lassa Fever
- Alzheimer's Society
- Women Walking for Women
- Raffle of Water bottles and Quiz – Water Aid
- Roath Park Stall – Marie Curie Cancer Charity
- President's lunch raffle – Velindre Charity Appeal
Raising Awareness and giving help through other activities.
- Barnado's Christmas Gift for young homeless people between 16 – 21 years, through the Marlborough Road Project
- Collecting food for the Rainbow of Hope – paradise run food for Asylum seekers in Cardiff
- Toiletry bags for the Rhymney Valley Woman's refuge
- Ty Celyn Sunday club for young people with a Learning disability.
- 50 cotton bags made for members to encourage the withdrawal of plastic bags.
The Princess Royal Trust in partnership with UKPAC will continue to raise the needs of unpaid Carers and on June 9th SI Cardiff & District responded to the call to hold a coffee morning to celebrate the start of Carers Week 2007 and held its coffee morning on the Cardiff Bay Lightship.
